Wolfe Hits First Homer In Husky Loss To Titans
March 20, 2010
SEATTLE - Cal State Fullerton used three homers in the early innings to beat the Washington baseball team, 19-6, Saturday afternoon at Husky Ballpark.
The Titans improved to 9-9 on the season with the win while Washington fell to 7-9.
Husky third baseman Jacob Lamb, who hit safely in his last three at bats in Friday's game, reached base in all five plate appearances Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a walk and a hit by pitch. Fellow freshman Brian Wolfe contributed his first college homer in the loss.
The Titans got runs on the board early, scoring a pair in the first on back-to-back, RBI doubles from Gary Brown and Carlos Lopez.
In the third, Fullerton catcher Billy Marcoe, a product of Eastside Catholic High, smacked a three-run homer to left, increasing the Titans lead to 5-0.
In the fourth, Titan shortstop Christian Colon, who hit three homers Friday, belted a solo homer just inside the left-field foul pole. Later in the fourth, a sacrifice fly from Nick Ramirez brought home another to make it a 7-0 game.
Washington scored its first run of the game in the fourth when center fielder Caleb Brown doubled and scored on a double-play groundout.
In the fifth, a solo homer from Tyler Pill and a Lopez' third-double of the day highlighted a four-run outburst from the Titans, making it an 11-1 game.
In the sixth, Wolfe, the Husky right fielder from Snohomish, led off with the first homer of his career. The rally continued as the Huskies went on to score three more in the inning. A double from Pierce Rankin drove in one and another double from Troy Scott brought home two more, cutting the lead to 11-5.
However, any momentum that the Huskies might have gathered in the sixth left when the Titans scored eight in the seventh to put the game away.
Daniel Renken (2-2) started and pitched five innings for the win while Washington starter Andrew Kittredge (3-2) worked four and two-thirds innings for the loss.
Fullerton got five hits from Brown, four from Lopez while Colon reached base the first six times he came to the plate.
The series wraps up Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game.
