It's Official -- Football Opens at Cowboys Stadium on ESPN

March 22, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. -

The contracts have been signed and it is now official, the Oregon State football team will travel to Arlington, Texas to open the 2010 season at Cowboys Stadium against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs.  The Sept. 4, 2010 game will be broadcast live by ESPN at 4:45 p.m. PDT.

The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools in football and solidifies OSU’s 2010 non-conference schedule that is one of the most difficult in the program’s history.  In addition to playing the preseason top-25 Frogs, the Beavers also tackle Louisville in a Sept. 18 home game and Boise State, projected to be another preseason nationally ranked foe, Sept. 25 at Bronco Stadium also on ESPN.

The visit to the state of Texas is the first for the Beavers during the regular season since a 1996 trip to Baylor; OSU played in El Paso in the 2006 and 2008 Sun Bowls.  The game will also be a homecoming for All-Americans James and Jacquizz Rodgers, who hail from Richmond, Texas near Houston.

“We’ve been seeking a game in Texas for a year or two to allow the Rodgers brothers a chance to return to their home state,” OSU Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis said.  “Coach (Mike) Riley and I discussed this possibility and came to the conclusion that this will be a terrific experience for our team, and something for our student-athletes to look forward to during spring practice and offseason conditioning workouts.”

The Beavers were 8-5 last season and tied for second in the Pac-10 with a record of 6-3, finishing just two positions out of the top-25 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls.  Mountain West Conference member TCU concluded the year No. 6 in both polls with a 12-1 record, losing to Boise State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Oregon State was originally scheduled to open the 2010 season at home against Eastern Washington on Sept. 4.  The Eagles are now playing at Nevada on Sept. 2 and reappear on the Beavers’ schedule Aug. 31, 2013.
