Jett Bandy Named Baseball Pac-10 POW

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona catcher Jett Bandy became the second player in as many weeks to be named the Pacific-10 Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Bandy, who leads all conference players with a .506 batting average, continued his monster start to the season by driving in at least one run in all five games on the week as he hit .611 (11-for-18) in five games to help push UA’s overall winning streak to 11 games. Bandy accounted for 15 runs on the week, scoring eight and driving in seven. In addition to his 11 hits, Bandy reached base twice by walk and was twice hit by a pitch, setting his weekly on-base percentage at .600.
The weekly performance improved Bandy’s season batting average to .506, which is tops in the Pac-10. Bandy also leads the league in hits (41), doubles (11) and runs scored (30) after 20 team games. Bandy checks in third in slugging percentage (.790) and second in on-base percentage (.570). Bandy has struck out just four times in 81 official at-bats, while leading Arizona in most all hitting categories, including home runs (4).
Arizona’s current 11-game winning streak has captured the attention of several national media outlets, including Collegiate Baseball which was the Wildcats ranked No. 19 in its Top 25 poll this week. The Wildcats are ranked No. 28 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 30 and are just a few votes shy of cracking the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 coaches’ baseball poll.
The Wildcats will put their winning streak on the line against New Mexico beginning on Tuesday, March 23, at 6 p.m. at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium. UA will then conclude the two-game series with the Lobos on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
