Softball Falls to San Diego State

San Diego, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team (12-14) fell to the San Diego State Aztecs (19-9), 4-1,  in the teams’ final game of the San Diego Classic II at the San Diego State Softball Stadium on Monday evening.


Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) recorded the team’s only extra-base hit with a double in the bottom of the sixth.


San Diego State, playing as the designated visiting team, scored a pair of runs in the top of the second on a two-run shot by Traci Wolf to take the 2-0 lead early.


Oregon State answered back in the bottom of the third on freshman Lea Cavestany’s (Pittsburg, Calif.) RBI single to right center, scoring senior Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) from third. Black led off the inning with a single through the right side, splitting the first and second baseman, before advancing on freshman Maggie Doremus’ (San Diego, Calif.) sacrifice bunt and reaching third on an error by third baseman Tanya Holguin to bring the Beavers within one at 2-1.


The Aztecs tacked on another run in the top of the fifth after Jen Wisneski hit a one-out triple, followed by a RBI single by Jessica Camello before scoring one more in the top of the seventh.


Hall was the pitcher of record, fanning five in the complete game, but falling to 8-12 on the season. The Aztecs’ Samantha Beasley earned the win, throwing 4.2 innings, to improve to 14-6.


Oregon State will travel to Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday to complete the suspended game from March 7 at approximately 8:00 p.m. The game was suspended in the bottom of the third with two outs.
