The California Golden Bears have their last chance to improve their Regional Qualifying Marks (RQS) in an attempt to earn individual invitations to the NCAA Regionals this week at the Pac-10 Championships, held on Saturday, March 27 in Tucson, Arizona. Live stats will be available through the University of Arizona's website. Highlights of the meet will also be aired on a tape-delayed basis on Fox Sports Net (locally on Comcast bay Area).

Last Week: Denver Tri-Meet California ended the regular season with their highest team score of the year, earning a 192.450. It was the third week their score rose above the 190.000 threshold and was the first time this season the Bears passed the 192.000 mark. Much of the foundation for their success came from outstanding performances on the beam. The Bears scored a season-high 48.800 in the event. It was more than just their highest mark of the season on the beam. It was their highest score in any event this season. All five of their counting scores were 9.725 or higher, another season-first for Cal.

A Look at Cal in the...

All-Around Cal has two or three all-arounders. Freshman Mariesah Pierce has the top all-around score among active gymnasts. She has only competed twice this season in the all-around, but has been the top all-arounder for Cal in each of those two meets. Cal's 2009 all-around leader, senior Sophia Hocini, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury at Arizona on Jan. 29. The weight of the all-around fell on the shoulder of freshman Madisyn O'Brien. Junior Avery Gee began competing on bars after the injury to Hocini, becoming Cal's second all-arounder.

Vault Freshman Madisyn O'Brien has the top mark on the vault (among active gymnasts) with a 9.775 against Davis. Freshman Arla Rosenzweig has the top RQS for the vault among Cal's gymnasts at 9.544.

Bars Freshman Stina Olivere has been the top Cal gymnast on the bars this season. She has the top score of the season, a 9.775 she earned at Arizona on January 29th. Her RQS is a 9.539.

Beam Cal is ranked ninth in the West Region on the beam and on the floor, their two top showings. Freshman Mariesah Pierce has been Cal's most consistent performer on the beam. She has scored above a 9.700 in each of her last three meets. Freshman Madisyn O'Brien and sophomore Erica Varon have each had a 9.775 this season for their beam routines. Sophomore Alex Leggitt earned Cal's top mark of the season on the beam, scoring a 9.825 in the Denver tri-meet.

Floor The floor was Cal's strongest event in six of their last seven meets. Junior Avery Gee is averaging a 9.775 this season for her routines. Both Gee and freshman Mariesah Pierce have scored 9.850's this season. Sophomore Alex Leggitt has been turning in strong performances recently, earning a 9.750 at Davis.
