Greg Peavey, Tanner Robles Named To Pitcher Of The Year Watch List

March 23, 2010

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oregon State starters Greg Peavey and Tanner Robles have been named to the watch list for the College Baseball Foundation's Pitcher of the Year award, it was announced Tuesday.

The two help comprise a list of 49 pitchers from across the nation that will be eventually pared down to the winner, who will be honored as part of the College Baseball Awards Show in Lubbock on July 2. The Pacific-10 Conference leads all leagues with nine players on the watch list.

Both Peavey and Robles are Pac-10 Pitchers of the Week this year. Peavey earned his honor after holding Tennessee to three hits in a 1-0 shutout of the Volunteers on Feb. 28. Robles, meanwhile, is this week's honoree after striking out a career-best 12 while allowing one run in eight innings in a 12-2 win over Maine this past Saturday.

Peavey comes into the week with a 2-0 record and a 2.39 earned run average. The right-hander has started four games, throwing a complete game against UT, and has struck out 23 in 26 1/3 innings. Of his 18 hits allowed, Peavey has given up just three extra base hits - all doubles - and opponents are batting .191 against him.

His WHIP for the season is an impressive 1.10.

Robles, meanwhile, leads Oregon State with a 4-1 record and 1.72 ERA, and opponents are batting just .224 against him.

He has started five games for the Beavers this season, and has limited opponents to just two earned runs and 15 hits in his last 22 1/3 innings.

On the year, Robles has struck out 34 in 31 1/3 innings, and walked just seven, giving him a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.85:1. His WHIP, meanwhile, is a miniscule 1.05.

The Beavers continue their homestand Wednesday when Southern Utah visits Corvallis. The game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. PT start at Goss Stadium.
