The Oregon State men's golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Duck Invitational with a 2-over par 360, which placed them third overall for the tournament.

The Beavers took an aggressive approach needing to erase an 11-stroke lead for eventual champion, and host, University of Oregon. OSU sunk 25 birdies but it wasn't enough to catch the leaders.

'We knew we had to make a lot of birdies today,' head coach Brian Watts said. 'And we did. But along with those birdies came too many bogeys. Overall, we are pleased with our performance and we know what we need to work on leading into our next tournament.'

Senior Diego Velasquez enjoyed a strong finish firing a 3-under 69 Tuesday to finish 4-under (72-71-69) 212 for the tournament. Velasquez was in position to win the tournament if not for a pair of unfortunate double bogeys.

Sophomore Casey King, who was tied for the tournament lead after two rounds, struggled today with a final round 77. Alex Moore, who like King played as an individual, shot a final round 71 to tie for 10th place, which marks the second year in a row he's collected a top 10 finish at the Duck Invitational.

The Duck Invitational was a two-day, 54-hole tournament with a play-six, count-five format - six golfers play, five scores count.

The Beavers are back on the links next week, April 2-3 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at the Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz.
