Fournier Earns 23rd Win of the Season in 6-1 Loss

Pullman, Wash. - Long Beach State proved to be too much for Washington State University Thursday in Long Beach, as the Cougars lost 6-1. Elisabeth Fournier posted the lone win of the day for WSU. It was Fournier's 23rd win of the season which puts her in the single season victories top ten list.

Fournier, a sophomore, has won fifteen matches this spring, and 23 this year. The all-time record for singles wins in a season is 28, which was set by Erin Majury in 1983 .The Ottawa, Canada native also cracked the top ten list for consecutive single match victories with her 11 match win streak earlier this spring.

The Cougars had a tough day on the court in the doubles matches, losing all three. Jessica Gomez and Andjela Kankaras came close to a victory, only losing 8-6 to the 49ers Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar.

In singles, Liudmila Vasilieva couldn't quite overcome her opponent Jaklin Alawi, despite taking Alawi to three sets. Fournier also went to three sets, but prevailed over Anais Dallara.

WSU returns to the court for Pacific 10 Conference action Friday, March 26. WSU heads to UCLA to take on the No. 5 Bruins at 1:30 p.m.
