Stanford Invitational Begins Friday

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford track and field program is set to host one of the nation's biggest meets, this weekend, at Cobb Track and Angell Field. The annual meet includes thousands of athletes at both the high school and collegiate level from around the nation. The action will begin Friday, March 26 and continue to Saturday, March 27.
The action kicks off on Friday morning with the field events beginning with the men's collegiate javelin at 9:00 am. The running events begin at 11:00 am with the fourth section of the men's 5,000 meters. The much anticipated distance carnival begins at 5:30 pm on Saturday following a 30 minute break in the action. The top sections of the 1,500 through 10,000 meters will take place Friday night with the final race scheduled to begin at 10:48 pm.
Saturday, the action again begins at 9:00 am with the high school 4x100-meter relays on the track and the boy's discus kicking off the field events. Saturday's last event is scheduled to be the boy's 4x400-meter relay at 4:52 pm.
The Stanford Invitational is one of the top meets in the nation each year. Former meet champions include the likes of Olympic Gold Medalist Gail Devers and Stanford Olympians Michael Stember and Brad Hauser.
