Anselment's Slam Highlights 13-4 Husky Win At DBUq

March 26, 2010

DALLAS - One night after hitting a three-run triple in the ninth to beat Dallas Baptist, freshman Chase Anselment belted a grand slam to cap a nine-run third inning as the Washington baseball team eased to a 13-4 win over DBU Friday night at Patriot Field.

Anselment, the UW designated hitter from Meadowdale High, hit the first homer of his career to score the final four runs of the Huskies' third inning. He also led off the inning with a single. Anselment finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

UW starting pitcher Forrest Snow (2-0) worked five innings, allowing one run on five hits while fanning four, for the victory. Ben Guidos worked the final four innings to pick up a save.

The Huskies, who also won Thursday night at DBU, improved to 10-10 on the season with their third straight win, while the Patriots fell to 14-9.

Washington's third-inning outburst was built largely on the efforts of freshmen, as eight of the nine runs batted in were provided by first-year. Anselment singled to lead off the inning, took second on a wild pitch and then scored on a double from Brian Wolfe, a freshman from Snohomish.

After an error allowed junior David Bentrott to reach base, freshman left fielder Andy Smith's single brought home Wolfe. After a bunt, freshman third baseman Jacob Lamb singled to bring in two more.

A single and a hit batter loaded the bases and Caleb Brown drew a walk to force in a fifth run. Anselment then followed with his grand slam, giving the Huskies a 9-0 lead.

DBU's Jason Krizan opened the bottom of the third with his fifth homer of the year, but that was all that the Patriots could muster until rallying for two runs in the eighth and then getting a solo homer in the ninth.

In the fifth, Brown walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch and, in the seventh, he walked and eventually scored on a fielder's choice make it an 11-1 Husky lead.

Washington added two more in the eighth on an RBI double from Lamb and a run-scoring groundout from freshman pinch hitter Eric Peterson. Lamb finished up 2-for-4 with three RBI.

DBU starter Will Lane (1-1) gave up four earned runs on five hits over two and one-third innings to take the loss.

The Huskies and Patriots wrap up the series Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. PT game.
