COLUMBUS, Ohio-- Stanford's Eugene Godsoe broke the school-record in the 100 backstroke, doing so with the school-record breaking 400 medley team as the Cardinal are in fifth place after day one of the NCAA Championships with 106 points.

Godsoe led off the day's final event in the backstroke, swimming a split of 44.93, to lead the pack and break Peter Marshall's 2004 record of 45.21. Auburn and eventual winner, Cal, caught up to the Cardinal, who finished third, breaking the 2008 Cardinal record (3:05.43) by two hundredths of a second with a time of 3:05.41. Godsoe was a sophomore on the previous record holding team.

Stanford had five other All-America efforts on day one. Texas leads with 145 points, followed by Cal (139), Florida (118) and Auburn (114.5).

David Mosko swam a personal-best 4:13.92 in the finals of the 500 freestyle, bettering his previous best by six-tenths of a second (4:14.53), which continues to rank second all-time behind 2007 record holder Shaun Phillips (4:13.07). It was the junior's third-straight All-America honor.

The 200 free relay team also finished fourth, paced by Alex Coville, David Dunford, Aaron Wayne and Jake Allen for a time of 1:16.64. Coville's opening split of 19.46 was a season-best and moved him up to No. 11 all-time. In the 50 freestyle, David Dunford (seventh) and Alex Coville (eighth) were each named All-Americans for top-eight national finishes in the finals.

The meet, delayed one day due to a virus contracted by approximately 18 athletes, will continue on Saturday and Sunday on the campus of Ohio State University.
