Golfers Take First Round Lead in Texas

The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team took the first round lead in the Betsy Rawls Invitational, hosted at the University of Texas Golf Course in Austin.
The Bruins posted a team score of 295 (+7) and led by a stroke after the opening round. A trio of Texas schools -- Texas, Texas Christian and Texas A&M -- were within four strokes along with the University of Oregon, which was tied for fourth place.
Individually for the Bruins sophomore Stephanie Kono birdied four of her last seven holes to post an opening round score of 71 (-1), which was tied for third place. Freshman Tiffany Lua was tied for 12th place after carding a 74 (+2). Senior Sydnee Michaels and sophomore Brianna Do were tied for 22nd after posting scores of 75 (+3) and junior Glory Yang was tied for 41st after a first round 77 (+5).
Shannon Fah of Texas and Sara Zwartynski were the co-leaders after the first round with scores of 70 (-2).
Second round action continues Saturday.
