PALO ALTO, Calif. - Taylor Wrenn's two-run single provided the go-ahead runs in the sixth as the USC Trojans defeated the No. 19 Stanford Cardinal, 13-8, in the Pac-10 Conference season opener for both teams Friday at Sunken Diamond. The Trojans pounded out 13 hits and tied the most runs scored at Sunken Diamond since 2003.

Wrenn, who scored four times in the game, and Ricky Oropesa had three hits each while Alex Sherrod went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and five RBI.

USC is now 12-10 overall, 1-0 in conference while Stanford is 10-6 overall and 0-1 in conference with the Trojans in the midst of a three-game winning streak.

Shuhei Fujiya (3-1) earned the win for the Trojans, allowing only one run on four hits in three innings while Brandon Garcia and Chris Mezger threw two combined shutout innings in relief.

Sherrod's third home run of the season broke a 2-2 tie in the third as Cade Kreuter's RBI double made it a 6-2 lead for the Trojans. The Cardinal took its first lead with three runs in the fifth on consecutive RBI singles from Zach Jones, Tyler Gaffney and Stephen Piscotty for the 8-7 advantage.

Kevin Roundtree drew a leadoff walk in the sixth, advancing to third on Joe De Pinto's double to left before Wrenn provided the two-run single. Oropesa then launched an RBI triple to left center and later scored on Sherrod's sacrifice fly. USC put up two more insurance runs in the eighth as Stanford was held scoreless in the last four innings.
