Huskies Complete Sweep Of DBU With 9-6 Win

March 27, 2010

DALLAS - Freshman Jacob Lamb drove in four runs as the Washington baseball team completed a three-game road sweep of Dallas Baptist with a 9-6 victory Saturday night at Patriot Field.

The Huskies improved to 11-10 on the season with their fourth straight victory while DBU fell to 14-10

Husky sophomore Andrew Kittredge (4-2) picked up the victory, allowing four runs over five and one-third innings, striking out five. Adam Cimber pitched the final three and two-thirds innings for his fifth save of the year.

Patriots ace Brandon Williamson (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits over six innings.

Washington scratched a run in the top of the first to take the early lead. Freshman left fielder Andy Smith singled to lead off and then, after advancing on a bunt and a passed ball, he scored on Lamb groundout.

In the third, Lamb, the hot-hitting third baseman from Bishop Blanchet High, drove in two more with a double, increasing the UW lead to 3-0.

Washington added two more in the fourth, thanks once again to freshmen. Chase Anselment singled and scored a triple from fellow freshman Brian Wolfe, who came in on a Smith single to make it 5-0.

DBU broke out for four runs in the fourth to draw to within a run. Ryan Enos' solo homer and a two-run shot from Ryan Behmanesh opened it up and an RBI single from catcher Chris Haney capped the rally.

In the top of the seventh, Lamb drove in his fourth run of the game with a single. Pierce Rankin and Troy Scott followed with back-to-back homers to stretch the Husky lead to 9-4. It was Rankin's fourth homer of the season and third in the last four games.

Lamb, who drove in three runs in Friday's win at DBU, finished Saturday's game 2-for-4 with four RBI. Smith and David Bentrott each contributed two hits as every Husky starter had at least one.

In the bottom of the ninth, DBU threatened. After a single and a hit batter, a double from Jason Krizan drove in one and put runners at second and third with one out. A groundout drove in another, but Cimber got the final out to end the game.

The Huskies return home to face Seattle University Monday at 5:00 p.m. at Husky Ballpark in a game added to the schedule. Then, next Thursday through Saturday, the UW plays host to Washington State in a three-game series to open Pac-10 play.
