PULLMAN, Wash. - Mike McCarthy tossed an eight-hit shutout and Cal State Bakersfield defeated Washington State 3-0 in nonconference baseball, Sunday at Bailey-Brayton Field.

With the victory, the Roadrunners (11-11) earned a split of the four-game weekend series. The Cougars (14-7) were 2-for-15 with men on base, including 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and stranded 10.

'We had our opportunities,' WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. 'We had a runner at third and less than two out three times and didn't get a run. Credit (Mike) McCarthy for shutting us down.'
