Golfers Win First Team Title of the Season
March 28, 2010
The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team won its first tournament of the 2009-10 season by posting the best score of the day in the final round of the Betsy Rawls Invitational hosted by the University of Texas Golf Course in Austin.
The Bruins' score of 299 (+11) gave them a 54-hole total of 884 (+20), good enough for a six-shot victory over conference rival Arizona (890, +6). Texas A&M, Texas Christian and Texas finished third through fifth, respectively.
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Brianna Do and senior Sydnee Michaels stepped up with their best scores of the event in the final round. Both players fired even par rounds of 72 to not only climb the leader board, but stabilize the Bruins' scoring. Do tied for third place overall at 220 (+4) along with sophomore Stephanie Kono, who posted an uncharacteristic 78 (+6) on Sunday. Michaels tied for fifth place at 221 (+5) and freshman Tiffany Lua tied for 10th at 223 (+7) following her round of 77 (+5). Junior Glory Yang tied for 47th at 236 (+20) after signing for a score of 81 (+9).
Sarah Zwatynski of Texas A&M won medalist honors with a three-day total of 213 (-3) after her final round score of 71 (-1).
