Third-ranked UCLA will host No. 9 Arkansas, No. 17 Iowa State, No. 21 Arizona, No. 26 BYU and No. 32 Arizona State in the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Los Angeles Regional. The meet will take place Saturday, Apr. 10 in Pauley Pavilion at 6 pm.
Also competing at the Regional will be five individual all-around competitors (Alaina Baker, Cal State Fullerton; Lily Swan, San Jose State; Tanya Ho, UC Davis; Eryn Stubblefield, Sacramento State; and Katie Yamamura, UC Davis) and four individual event specialists (Vault - Shakea Sanders, Alaska Anchorage; Bars - Lida Gehlen, UC Davis; Beam - Cayla Boyce, Sacramento State; Floor - Gabrielle Targosz, San Jose State).
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors not from an advancing team from the regional will receive a berth in the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Gainesville, FL Apr. 22-24. In addition, individual event winners who did not already qualify with their team or as an all-arounder will advance.
The rotation order goes as follows: Iowa State begins on vault, Arizona on a bye before bars, Arizona State on bars, BYU on beam, UCLA on a bye before floor and Arkansas on floor.
Tickets for the regional championships can be purchased at UCLA's Central Ticket Office, (310) UCLA-WIN and online at www.tickets.ucla.edu. Lower level reserved tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for youth (16 and under) and UCLA students. Mid-level general admission prices are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and UCLA students.
The Bruins enter the Regional Championships as the third-ranked team in the nation and the back-to-back Pac-10 Champions. UCLA won its 15th conference title last Saturday with a dominating 24-for-24 performance at the Pac-10 Championships, scoring 197.35, the highest team total recorded at all conference championships this year. Sophomore Vanessa Zamarripa, who was named the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year, won the all-around and vault titles. Junior Brittani McCullough won a share of the floor exercise title, and senior Anna Li won her second consecutive uneven bars crown, scoring the first perfect 10 of her career.
