'The Other Side' Talent Show Scheduled
March 29, 2010
Corvallis, Ore. -
You've cheered for them in legendary Gill Coliseum and on the fields of play on and off campus, but you never seen them like this. The Department of Athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) are proud to announce the eighth annual 'The Other Side' talent show and silent auction will be held Tues., April 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the LaSells Stewart Center, adjacent to Reser Stadium.
'People see these student-athletes excelling in their sports, but they have many other talents as well,' OSU Associate Athletic Director and Lifeskills Coordinator Linda Johnson said. 'We have folks who leave this event every year who are truly amazed just how gifted our student-athletes are.'
Representatives from all of OSU's 17 intercollegiate teams will perform.
The Other Side selects a charity or cause to support every year; this year 50 percent of all proceeds will be donated to OSU IMPACT - a community based program that serves children with disabilities. Cost of the event is $5 for adults, $3 for OSU students, $1 for children (6-17) and free for kids six and under. Tickets are available at the door only.
The Other Side began as a fundraiser to honor two very dedicated student-athletes who passed away during 2002; men's soccer players Stephen Hensor and Joe Zaher. Since then The Other Side has raised and donated money to local and national programs.
Silent auction items may include OSU athletic gear, personal time with the student-athletes and specific skill building lessons.
ABOUT OSU IMPACT -- IMPACT is a community based program that serves children with disabilities. At OSU about 80 children with varying disabilities come to campus each week to learn important movement skills and address ongoing concerns for healthy lifestyles. OSU student volunteers work as teachers-mentors to assist these children gaining new skills.
