TUCSON--The UA football team held a spirited workout this morning at 6 a.m. at local Salpointe Catholic High School's field, with another day-break session slated tomorrow.

The team will take the weekend off before resuming drills Monday and Wednesday next week. The annual Spring Game will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in connection with football alumni weekend events on Friday. Coach Mike Stoops plans a final practice on Monday, April 12 to close spring ball.

One thing is evident from watching practice. Arizona's three junior quarterbacks are a confident bunch. Nick Foles, Matt Scott and Bryson Beirne all look sharp, according to Stoops, a feature that he feels will make for a capable offensive unit. That will help the staff as it brings along a group of seven new starters on defense.

Stoops has been spending more time than usual on the defensive end of the field at drills, working with coordinators Tim Kish and Greg Brown to help speed the process.

UA quarterbacks have settled in under the surpervision of new coach Frank Scelfo, and the offensive unit -- under new coordinators Bill Bedenbaugh and Seth Littrell -- has taken it to the defense a few times this spring, notably last Saturday when the throwers connected on 30 of 35 passes in scrimmage action at Arizona Stadium.
