Join Corey Pavin and the 2010 Ryder Cup Team for a Trip to Wales
March 31, 2010
Travel packages are now offered for golf enthusiasts who wish to support the 2010 U.S. Ryder Cup Team in Newport, South Wales this fall for the 38th Ryder Cup competition at Celtic Manor Resort. The competition begins on Oct. 1 and ends Oct. 3 at the Twenty-Ten Course at Celtic Manor.
UCLA alumnus and U.S. Team Captain Corey Pavin will lead the Americans as they attempt to retain the cup they won in 2008 on U.S. soil. In past years, the European Team has dominated the competition, but Pavin was on the last American team that won the title overseas.
'This is an exciting opportunity for UCLA alumni, friends and golf enthusiats to support the United States Ryder Cup Team,' said Pavin, a three-time All-American at UCLA in the early 1980s. 'Believe me when I say that our players greatly appreciate all the support from those who travel and cheer for them.'
Winner of the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, Pavin has won more than 25 professional golf tournaments worldwide and boasts more than $15 million in career earnings. He played on three Ryder Cup teams, winning in 1991 and 1993, and boasts a career record of 8-5-0. In 1993 and '94 he won consecutive Nissan Opens at Riviera Country Club.
UCLA Golf Coach Derek Freeman will serve as tour leader for a special group of Bruin fans who commit to making the trip. The package features three options: land only, flying with the team on its charter and a Tour Championship package. The Tour Championship package includes one night's stay at one of Atlanta's finest hotels and attendance at the final round of the Tour Championship on Sept. 25 prior to the chartered flight to England and a week's stay in South Wales.
'The Ryder Cup is one of the best sporting events in the world,' said Freeman. 'Having our alumnus, Corey Pavin, serve as captain of the United States Team is one of the highest honors ever achieved by a UCLA golfer. It's going to be a great event and we're excited about traveing to support Corey and the Ryder Cup Team. Corey and I are hoping that hundreds of UCLA and Ryder Cup fans accompany us this fall to Wales.'
