Bruins Tee Off at ASU Thunderbird Friday

April 1, 2010

The fifth-ranked UCLA men's golf team travels to Tempe, Ariz. this weekend to compete in the 38th Annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course.

The Bruins, who began the season ranked 22nd, have risen steadily and find themselves sixth in the latest GolfStat poll. Victories at the Battle of the Beach (Feb. 16) and the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters (Mar. 14) have enabled them to ascend the rankings in recent weeks.

The Bruins have won this tournament three times, last in 1996 when former All-American Brandon DiTullio (1997-01) won medalist honors.

The Bruins' lineup will be comprised entirely of underclassmen: sophomores Gregor Main and Alex Shi Yup Kim and freshmen Mario Clemens, Pedro Figueiredo and Pontus Widegren. Currently, Kim is the Bruins' highest-ranked player at No. 42.
