TEMPE, Ariz. - In an unofficial tuneup for the Pac-10 Championships, the Washington Husky men's golf team begins play in the 38th annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Friday. Washington is among 15 teams that will converge at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course (par-71, 7,057 yards) for 36 holes tomorrow and 18 holes on Saturday.

All 10 Pac-10 teams are participating as Karsten will play host to the Pac-10 Championships on April 26-28. Also competing are BYU, Colorado State, UC-Irvine, San Diego State and UNLV.

Head coach Matt Thurmond will have a lineup that includes his four seniors -- Nick Taylor, Richard Lee, Darren Wallace and Chris Killmer -- plus freshman Chris Williams.

Washington, ranked fourth by Golfstat and sixth by Golfweek, is looking to regain some of its swagger after struggling at the National Collegiate Match Play tournament two weeks ago. The Huskies were 1-3 in four matches.

In stroke-play format, Washington has finished third or higher in all but one of seven tournaments. The Dawgs have two more tournaments, including this weekend, before the Pac-10 Championships.

The Huskies are paired in foursomes with Stanford, Oregon and UCLA and begin teeing off in a shotgun-format at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow.
