Runs Aplenty In No. 7 Softball's Loss To No. 3 Arizona

April 2, 2010

TEMPE, Ariz. - Thursday night turned into a slug-fest with four home runs at Farrington Stadium as the No. 7 Sun Devil Softball team fell in a tough 12-6 loss to in-state rival No. 3 Arizona. Hillary Bach took the loss to go 15-2 on the season as ASU falls to 31-5 overall and 0-1 in Pac-10 play.

Ms. Hillary Bach took to the circle for the Sun Devils where she came out to a tough first inning against the Wildcats as she gave up two quick infield hits to the speedy UA slappers before K'Lee Arredondo came in to clear them all with a three run shot to center field for a 3-0 Arizona lead. That wasn't all UA had in their tank in the first though as a Stacie Chambers single came home with yet another long ball from Brigette Del Ponte to make it 5-0 .

The Sun Devils fired back though as they pulled three straight walks to load the bases with no outs which saw a single from Annie Lockwood bring one home, before a throwing error from short brought in two more to pull it to 5-3. A sac fly from Mandy Urfer to center capped the inning as ASU made a game of it with a 5-4 score after one complete.

The wily `Cats weren't done though as they seemed to have Bach's number in the third inning with a single and two walks proving costly as a double down the left line from Kristen Arriola brought home two before a single from Brittany Lastrapes brought in another run to push it to 7-4.

The Wildcats came out with the venom of an anaconda in the fifth inning again as they had added three more runs to the board with three hits and a walk with Brittany Lastrapes' double to left field as one of the `Cat highlights edging UA closer to the win with an 11-4 lead after five. Another home run put the `Cats dangerously close to a run rule win before Katelyn Boyd cranked a two-run shot to right field for her 14th home run of the season.

The effort wasn't enough though, even with Megan Elliott putting in some stellar pitching relief as the Sun Devils took the loss 12-6 final with Hillary Bach falling to 15-2 overall.

The Sun Devils return to action tomorrow as they host the Wildcats yet again at 7 p.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium. As of now the game is sold out with standing room only tickets remaining.
