No. 53 Arizona tops Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--The Arizona women's tennis team bounced back from last week's home losses with a 5-2 win over Cal State Northridge on Friday.

The Wildcats started off strong, clinching the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2, seniors Claire Rietsch and Natalia Toporowska topped Nina Jaworowski and Whitney Paluch 8-6. Sophomores Natasha Marks and Debora Castany notched their first win as a doubles duo with the 8-4 win over Nigora Sirojiddinova and Maria Pistalu.

In singles, Marks, ranked at No. 105 in the ITA, topped CSUN's Brooke Doane 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 position, and sophomore Sarah Landsman, ranked at No. 84 topped Nina Jaworowski 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 in the No. 2 spot.

At No. 3, Rietsch defeated Pulach in straight sets 6-4, 6-0, and Castany defeated Anna Yang 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.

'The match went really well for us today.' Said head coach Vicky Maes, 'Everyone played relaxed and got the job done. CSUN is a good team and we knew this was going to be a challenging day, yet we kept our cool and were able to pull out the win. I'm very pleased with how the girls competed.'

Up next, the Wildcats will face Loyola Marymount University on Saturday, April 3 at noon.
