UA-Cal Game 2 Postponed

April 2, 2010

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Arizona baseball game against California scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start here at Evans Diamond has been postponed due to forecasted rain this afternoon. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon.

Arizona head coach Andy Lopez agreed with California head coach David Esquer to postpone today’s game with the threat of rain later this afternoon. Neither coach wanted to begin a game today and then have to resume it on Saturday with the early performances of starting pitchers wasted.

Light rain fell this morning in the Bay Area with heavier rain forecasted in the afternoon and evening hours. Saturday’s forecast is for much drier conditions with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50’s expected.

The Wildcats were still planning to bus over to the Berkeley campus to lift in the weight room and take an hour of batting practice in the cages in the early afternoon.

Arizona’s Game 1 starter, Kurt Heyer, rejoined the team shortly after the game on Thursday evening after further precautionary evaluations at a local hospital. Heyer was struck in the head by a line drive in the fourth inning of Thursday’s game, but was feeling fine on Thursday evening and did not have any serious effects from the play that forced him from the game.

The No. 20 Wildcats (20-6, 2-2 Pac-10) and Golden Bears (14-10, 1-3 Pac-10) will wrap up the series on Saturday with the doubleheader.
