Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team (20-16, 1-2 Pac-10) led through six innings before a late rally by No. 21 Oregon (26-6, 2-1 Pac-10) clinched the game in favor of the Ducks, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.

Junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) and freshman Maggie Doremus (San Diego, Calif.) both had two hits each to garner four of the team’s six hits.

Oregon State took the slim 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a blooper single to left center by senior Dani Chisholm (Boring, Ore.) to score Doremus from second. Doremus led off the inning with an infield single to third baseman Cortney Kivett.

The Beavers tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth on sophomore Mary Claire Brenner’s (Portland, Ore.) fielder’s choice RBI to Kivett, scoring Lowe from third at a close play at the plate to make it 2-0. With two outs and runners on second and third, Oregon State added another pair of runs to make it 4-0, scoring both on a throwing error by shortstop Kelsey Chambers.

Oregon threatened with a three-run inning of its own in the top of the fifth, scoring three on four hits to make it a close 4-3 game.

Freshman Ally Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) hit a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the sixth to widen the gap to two runs at 5-3 heading into the final inning.

With runners on second and third, Oregon’s Allie Burger hit the Ducks’ second home run of the series to put three runs on the board, giving Oregon the 6-5 game-winning advantage.
