Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) hit her 11th home run of the season, a grand slam over left field to lead the Oregon State softball team (20-15, 1-1 Pac-10) to a 7-6 win over No. 21 Oregon (25-6, 1-1 Pac-10) in Friday’s suspended game, completed on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.

Oregon State racked up nine hits, including Roderfeld’s home run and a pair of doubles with sophomore Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) and freshman Maggie Doremus (San Diego, Calif.) both earning two-hit games.

Oregon took the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on four straight hits from the top of its order with Sam Pappas earning the both RBI.

After a scoreless bottom half, Oregon State came out in a big way in the second beginning with back-to-back doubles by senior Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) and Doremus to make it 2-1. Oregon State tied the game up on senior Dani Chisholm’s (Boring, Ore.) hit to left center, scoring Doremus from second before advancing to second on the throw.

Chisholm advanced to third on junior McKenna Lowe’s (Tustin, Calif.) single with Lowe moving into scoring position by stealing second. Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) loaded the bases on a full count walk, bringing up Roderfeld. Roderfeld worked ahead in the count before turning it full, fouling off one more before blasting one deep over left field to give the Beavers the 6-2 lead, and prompting a pitching change from Oregon.

Sanchez robbed Kaitlin Vitek of a home run in the top of the fourth to preserve the 6-2 Beaver lead as she leaped up and caught the ball as it was about to drop on the other side of the left center fence.

Oregon cut the Beavers lead to three, scoring one on a bases loaded walk to make it 6-3 Oregon State.

Sanchez batted in a run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Doremus from second to widen the gap back up to four runs to make it 7-3.

But Oregon added another in the top of the second on a solo home run by Kelsey Chambers before a RBI double by Monique Fuiava made it a two-run game with the go-ahead run at the plate with one out. The Ducks added another run to make it a close 7-6 game, but a ground out ended the game in favor of the Beavers.

Hall earned the win after throwing 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and scattering five hits to improve to 14-13, while senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) earned her first save of the season, starting the game before coming in to throw the remaining inning of work with one strikeout. Oregon’s Sam Skillingstad was charged with the loss after throwing 1.2 innings, giving up six of the seven runs, all earned.

Oregon State will host No. 9 Stanford on Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the OSU Softball Complex. Follow these games live through GameTracker or on Twitter – OregonStateSB.
