Washington Takes Five Of Six Races Against Stanford
April 3, 2010
BELMONT, Calif. - In their first intercollegiate test of the spring racing season, both Washington crew programs had a successful day on the water at Redwood Shores against Pac-10 rival Stanford.
The men's crew team swept all three races, each win coming by open water. The women's program rebounded from an opening loss to the defending National Champions in the varsity eight to capture wins with their second varsity and novice boats. There are two more additional races this afternoon for the women, including a test from a tough Wisconsin program. Continue checking back to GoHuskies.com for results.
Coming into the weekend, men's crew coach Michael Callahan said he was perhaps more excited about this race, mostly because he still didn't have a firm handle on his talented - but young - crews. But the Husky oarsmen removed any doubt with a showcase of technically proficient rowing against an excellent team in the No. 10 Cardinal.
'We're pleased with how they started, but there's a lot of work ahead,' Callahan said. 'We've really got to get back at training and get ready for the next step ahead.'
