April 5, 2010
BERKELEY - Twelve California Golden Bears earned spots on the Pac-10 All-Academic Women's Swimming and Diving teams, the conference office announced Monday. Six Bears are on the second team and six claimed honorable mention status. Cal ended its 2009-10 season with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships in March after taking second place at the Pac-10 Championships in February.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-10 All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average and must be a significant contributor to her school's team.
Cal senior swimmers Lauren Boyle, Alexandra Ellis and Blake Hayter joined junior Amanda Sims and sophomores Shelley Harper and Sara Isakovic on the conference all-academic second team. Harper, an undeclared major, had the Bears' top GPA on the second team with a 3.52.
Boyle is currently at home in New Zealand competing in the New Zealand Open Championships that is doubling as the qualifying meet for her country's Commonwealth Games team.
A trio of Cal divers - junior Laura Sanford and sophomores Alissa Barker and Molly Hayes - joined three swimmers - seniors Courtney Eronemo and Heather White and junior Kelsey Hoff - in garnering honorable mention accolades.
