Husky Men And Women Bringing In The Crowds

April 5, 2010

SEATTLE - With a pair of Top-25 teams on the court this season, Husky fans have done a fantastic job showing their support, as both UW men's and women's tennis teams rank in the top-five nationally in total attendance through March. Both Husky squads lead the Pac-10 in total attendance.

The 21st-ranked Husky men have seen 2,308 fans turn out at the Nordstrom Tennis Center or Bill Quillian Stadium this season over nine matches for an average of 256 fans per match. The total mark ranks the men fourth in the nation behind Virginia, Texas A&M, and Georgia. Last season the men finished eighth in total attendance and have seen their average rise from 231 a year ago.

The women have seen a rise in attendance this season following their NCAA Round of 16 appearance last year. After not placing in the top-10 last year, the women have joined the men at fourth in overall attendance with 1,198 total fans this season for an average of 149 per match, which ranks seventh nationally.

The Husky women, currently ranked 23rd, would love to see a big turnout this Friday and Saturday in their last home matches of the season. Friday, the Huskies host Stanford at 12 noon, then place California on Saturday at 12 noon also. These will be the final two home matches for senior starters Joyce Ardies and Aleksandra Malovic as well as Lauren Summers.
