Bruins Tee Off at PING/ASU Invitational Friday

April 8, 2010

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team travels to Tempe, Ariz. this weekend to compete in the annual PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course.

UCLA has won this event twice -- in 2006 and '04 -- and figures to be one of the favorites this season. Host Arizona State has won the event 17 times.

This year's 17-team field features six teams ranked in the Top 10, including No.3 ASU, No.5 Alabama, No.6 USC and No. 7 Arizona. Eight teams from the Pac-10 Conference are also competing.

The Bruins, ranked No.1 in this week's GolfStat poll, won the Betsy Rawls Invitational last month for their first title of the season.

UCLA's lineup will consist of senior Sydnee Michaels, junior Glory Yang, sophomores Stephanie Kono and Brianna Do and freshman Tiffany Lua. Kono is UCLA's highest ranked player at No.5, followed by Michaels at No. 11.
