Golfers Tied for Fourth after First Round at ASU

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for fourth place following the opening round of play at the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz.

The Bruins posted a team score of three-over par 291 and were tied with Alabama, New Mexico and Denver. Host Arizona State was the first round leader, posting a score of 279 (-9), followed by USC at 281 (-7) and Purdue 287 (-1).

Individually for the Bruins, sophomores Stephanie Kono and Brianna Do were tied for 11th place after posting first round scores of 71 (-1). Freshman Tiffany Lua was tied for 38th place at 74 (+2) and junior Glory Yang was tied for 47th at 75 (+3). Senior Sydnee Michaels was tied for 55th after posting a 76 (+4).

Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda and Tulsa's Kristina Merkle were co-leaders at 68 (-4) following Friday's round.
