Wildcats Finish 7th at ASU Invite

TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore Nikki Koller shot a team-best round of 4-under 68, helping Arizona to a 7th place finish at the PING/ASU Invitational, Sunday afternoon at the Karsten Golf Course.
Koller matched her low round of the season by recording a personal-best 7 birdies, including five on the back nine after playing the front side of the course at even par. She also shot 68 last month in the opening round of the Bruin Wave Invitational. Her score helped her finish the 54-hole event in a tie for 29th place at 3-over par 219.
The Wildcats shot their best team score of the weekend on Sunday, finishing at 1-under par 287 on the day for a 4-over par total of 868 for the tournament. UCLA captured the team title by shooting 9-under par on Sunday for a 8-under finish, besting tournament host Arizona State by one stroke and USC by two shots.
Sophomore Margarita Ramos shot her second-straight sub-par round, finishing the tournament with a 1-under par round of 71 to finish tied for 11th place at 2-under par. Isabelle Boineau carded her second-straight even par round of 72 to finish tied with Koller at 3-over par.
Alejandra Llaneza shot 76 on Sunday to tally a 54-hole total of 6-over par 222 for a share of 38th overall while Sherlyn Popelka shot 77 to end up tied for 46th at 8-over par. Brittany Benvenuto competed as an individual over the weekend and ended up tied for 65th place after carding a round of 79 on the final day.
Stephanie Kono of UCLA won the individual title at 9-under par after shooting 66 on Sunday. Jennifer Song of USC was one shot off the pace while Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State and Rebecca Hellbom of New Mexico each shot 67 on Sunday to end up tied for 3rd at 7-under par.
Arizona begins its postseason stretch on Monday, April 19 at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships, hosted by the University of Oregon at the Eugene Country Club. The tournament is also 54 holes with one round being played over each of the three days of the event.
