USC Newcomer Earns All-American Honors
April 12, 2010
USC incoming freshman Cassie Harberts has collected some significant honors on her way into joining the Trojan roster next season. The standout from San Clemente High School closed down her high school career with All-American accolades, and recently competed in the WBCA High School All-America Game.
The 6-2 post player is listed as the No. 11 ranked player in the class of 2010 recruits, and earned a place on the PARADE All-America High School Girls Basketball Third Team last month. She also was selected as a WBCA High School All-American, and competed for the Red Team at the 2010 WBCA High School All-America Game on April 3 in Atlanta, Ga. Harberts contributed six points to the Red Team's winning effort over the White Team.
'It's a wonderful honor for Cassie and a great opportunity,' USC head coach Michael Cooper said. 'She should have made McDonald's All-American as well, but she didn't get the opportunity for that. PARADE and WBCA honors are great awards for her. She's coming to USC, and we're loving it.'
Harberts is one of five new athletes signed on to join the Women of Troy next season. Head coach Michael Cooper welcomes a class ranked No. 7 in the nation according to hoopgurlz.com. Along with 11th-ranked Harberts, the USC newcomers include Desiree Bradley (#35), Len'Nique Brown, Thaddesia Southall (#99) and Lauren White.
