April 15, 2010

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona head coach Niya Butts has announced the signing of Taylor Dalrymple to a National Letter of Intent, adding a fourth player to the 2010 recruiting class.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Dalrymple played her first two seasons at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., where she was an honorable mention all-Panhandle Conference pick in 2010. She originally committed to South Carolina out of high school, but chose to play for head coach Roonie Scovel and the Commodores.

Dalrymple comes from a basketball family as her father, Bruce, was an all-ACC standout at Georgia Tech from 1984-87 and helped the Yellow Jackets to their first ACC Tournament championship in 1985. He was recently named to the ACC Men's Basketball Legends class of 2010 representing Georgia Tech.

The 6'0' power forward averaged 6.7 points and 6.2 rebounds this past season for a 32-1 team that won the NJCAA Division I National Championship last month. Dalrymple, who prepped at Collins Hill High School and was a prep teammate of Connecticut guard Maya Moore, is ranked the #3 junior college power forward by the Girls Basketball Report and #17 overall among junior college players. She was also rated the #34 power forward coming out of high school by

'We are very excited to have Taylor be a part of our team for the next two seasons,' said Butts, also a native of Georgia. 'She will bring a lot of intangibles to our team. She's a tough, physical player who is also a good passer, something that will help complement the players we have returning. She is a winner, she's vocal and she will say what needs to be said. She has won at all levels and we need more players with that kind of experience in our program.'

Dalrymple joins a recruiting class the includes another player from the Peachtree State, Candice Warthen of Warrenton, as well as Erica Barnes of Sacramento, California and Kiante Ageous of San Antonio, Tex. The Wildcats return seven players from the 2009-10 season while adding the services of redshirt junior Shanita Arnold, a transfer from the University of Arkansas who sat out this past season to fulfill NCAA transfer requirements.
