Softball's Late Rally Falls Short against No. 7 UCLA

April 17, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team (21-20, 2-6) scored a pair of runs, but the late rally came up short against the No. 7 UCLA Bruins (29-9, 3-5) in the 4-2 Saturday game at the OSU Softball Complex.

The Beavers tallied four hits with junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) earning her second triple of the season for the team’s first hit of the game.

UCLA broke up the scoreless game in the top of the fourth with two different batters going yard for two-run scores to make it 4-0.

The Beavers were held scoreless until the seventh inning with after a leadoff walk, junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) nearly hit a home run with a deep ball to center field to put runners on second and third. A ground out RBI by freshman Ally Kutz (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) scored one before a RBI single by freshman Maggie Doremus (San Diego, Calif.) put another run on the board with two outs.

Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) was the pitcher of record, throwing 3.2 innings, facing nine in the fourth inning. Hall’s record is now 15-16. Senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) came in relief, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings and scattering two hits, while striking out three.

UCLA’s Whitney Baker earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings with Destiny Rodino coming in relief in the sixth.
