GymDawg Journal: Samantha Walior
April 19, 2010
Hey Gymdawg Fans!!
All I can say is...What a whirlwind of a season!! To finish in the Top 25 as a team, score mid-195's multiple times, have our highest RQS since us Juniors have been here, and have as much fun as we did....and it's not even over yet!!!
As some of you may have heard, Kris and I made the NCAA National Championships on Floor Exercise! We couldn't be more excited to have this opportunity, and especially in Florida! What an awesome place for it to be....It's gonna be some warm weather and AMAZING competition! We can't wait to show the nation what we have here at UW, and we're so anxious to represent as best as we can.
We leave on Tuesday, train Wednesday, then compete Thursday night in the second session. I rotate with Arkansas and SUU's Elise Wheeler, and Kristen is with Michigan and the University of Minnesota's Alexis Russell. I can't wait to say hi to a couple of my friends, including Alexis, who I grew up competing with in Minnesota. It is going to be an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life.
This whole week, our team was in the gym with us, training and supporting us. We had a mini meet Friday and the whole team showed routines on two events of their choice, and then me and Kristen capped off the practice with our floor routines. It was our last official practice of the year as a team, although me and Kris are coming in Monday morning before class to train floor once more. It was such an amazing feeling to have the whole team in there with us, keeping us going when it can be a little difficult.
Knowing you only have one event to compete is a weird feeling, after three years of competing bars, beam, and floor in every meet for both of us. It should be interesting only competing once. But we cannot wait to have an awesome time competing, watching the Super Six, and then coming back and sharing all the excitement with our team!
During the offseason we plan on training all the time, and only getting better and better. Next year will be a year to watch for the Huskies!!!! If we don't have another Journal until next year, I'll see you then Gymdawg fans!!!! And thank you for all the support we had this past year, and especially at the Regional Championships in Utah! You guys are amazing, and we appreciate it!!!
