Cats Climb to 2nd at Pac-10
April 20, 2010
EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Margarita Ramos shot a 1-under par 71, the only sub-par round of the day for any player, helping Arizona climb to second place at the 2010 Pac-10 Women’s Golf Championships, Tuesday afternoon at the Eugene Country Club.
Ramos was steady all day when scores were considerably higher on the second day of action. After a bogey on the par-3 2nd hole, she got back to even par with a birdie on the par-4 4th hole, then birdied the par-5 11th hole. She recorded par on each of the remaining 15 holes to move into a tie for 8th place at 3-over for the tournament.
The Wildcats had the best team score of the day at 9-over 297, besting tournament-leader UCLA by one stroke. Arizona is 14-over after two days of play, three shots behind the Bruins. The Wildcats are two shots better than California while USC is four shots behind the Cats.
Sherlyn Popelka carded a second-straight 1-over par 73 and is tied for 6th place on the individual leaderboard. Isabelle Boineau is one shot behind Ramos at 4-over par after 36 holes after shooting 75 on Tuesday. Nikki Koller shot 78 and is 7-over par while Alejandra Llaneza is tied for 32nd place at 12-over par.
Popelka is just three shots off the individual lead, held jointly by Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State and Stephanie Kono of UCLA at 1-under par. First-day leader Joanne Lee is even par to hold third place while two other players are 1-over par.
Arizona will be paired up with UCLA in the final group of twosomes with Llaneza leading the team onto the first tee.
