Pac-10 Draws and Results

OJAI, Calif. - The Husky men's tennis team made up one quarter of the Round of 16 in the main singles draw at the Pac-10 Championships today with first round victories, but all four were knocked out in their second matches at Libbey Park today on day one of the conference tourney. Juniors Alex Rosinski and Brad Bator did advance into the singles quarterfinals of the invitational draw.

The morning could not have gone much better for the Huskies as they won four out of five first round matchups. Sixth-seeded junior Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Stanford's Greg Hirshman. Junior Tobi Obenaus had a big win over UCLA's Kallim Stewart, defeating the former top-100 player 6-2, 6-4.

Junior Martin Kildahl won his fifth-straight match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 against Matt Kecki of USC in the first round, and freshman Kyle McMorrow of nearby Thousand Oaks, Calif. got his homecoming off well with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Arizona's Geoff Embry. The only setback was a 6-3, 6-3 loss for senior Derek Drabble to Oregon's No. 1 player, Alex Cornelissen.

In the second round, however, UW ran up against a number of the top seeds. Three members of the defending NCAA Champion Trojans got the better of the Huskies. Obenaus lost 6-3, 6-0 to top-seeded Robert Farah of USC, and eighth-seeded Daniel Nguyen held off McMorrow, 6-2, 7-5. The toughest loss was a 6-1, 6-1 setback for Nedunchezhiyan against USC's Peter Lucassen. Lastly, Kildahl fell short against No. 3-seed Ryan Thacher of Stanford, 6-3, 6-2.

In the invitational draw, Rosinski and Bator had byes into the round of 16, then each posted straight-set wins to make Friday's quarterfinals. Rosinski topped UCLA's Evan Lee, 6-4, 6-4, and Bator defeated Oregon's Sho Higuchi, 7-6, 6-4. Rosinski will play Oregon's Aaron Clissold and Bator faces Stanford's Matt Kandath on Friday at 11 a.m.

Doubles play will also begin Friday, with Nedunchezhiyan and McMorrow earning the No. 3 seed in the main draw, and Kildahl and Drabble looking to surpass their semifinal run from a year ago.
