Four Through To Quarters On Opening Day Of Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif.- Four Stanford players punched their ticket to the singles quarterfinal round on Thursday afternoon during the opening day of the Pac-10 Championships.
Klahn, Stanford's top player who is also ranked No. 12 in the country, pounded Oregon's Nico Bjerke 6-2, 6-1 before outlasting UCLA's Max Ta Ba Truong 4-6, 7-6 (10), 6-2. Thacher cruised in both of his matches, defeating Oregon's Rick Mortera 6-1, 6-3 and Washington's Martin Kildahl 6-3, 6-2.
Alex Clayton picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Arizona's Borja Malo in the opening round before dropping a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 decision to UCLA's Matt Brookyln in his next match. Richard Wire also won his first match (6-4, 6-4 over Arizona's Ravid Hazi) before falling 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 to UCLA's Nick Meister.
On the women's side, Barte and Tan won two matches apiece and will square off in one of four quarterfinal tilts tomorrow. Ranked No. 4 in the nation, Barte cruised past Washington's Lina Xu 6-1, 6-2 and Washington State's Luda Vasilieva 6-0, 6-1. Tan edged UCLA's Stephanie Hoffpauir 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in her debut match before notching a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over California's Kasia Siwosz 6-3, 7-5.
In the Invitational division, Jennifer Yen downed Arizona's Jane Huh 6-2, 6-4 but was upended 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 by California's Tayler Davis in her next match.
Play resumes Friday morning, highlighted by the start of doubles.
