Gymnastics Journey: Ready for Action
April 22, 2010
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Hey SWG fans!
Today was another exciting day here in Florida. After a great night's sleep everyone woke up feeling refreshed and eager for the upcoming days. We had a very relaxing morning, and spent most of our time hanging out and exploring the hotel. For lunch, the destination was Pita Pit, and I think that when we get back to campus everyone is going to be searching for the closest Pita Pit because the food was delicious! After lunch we went back to our rooms while a few girls set up a surprise for the team. We all gathered and began a scavenger hunt around the hotel, with each clue corresponding to one of our favorite memories from this year. Along with each clue, a puzzle piece was attached. Our final task was to assemble the puzzle and share the memories we gathered along the way. It was a great way to look back on all of the amazing moments from this past year and many of the great things we have accomplished as a team. It also made us realize how grateful we are to be a part of Stanford gymnastics and just how much we truly cherish the time we get to spend with each other every single day.
We then made our way to the Arena for our practice session. Once we arrived, we got a tad bit lost along the way finding the entrance, but made friends with a friendly UF student who guided us in the right direction. The arena was wicked awesome!!! When we walked in and saw the podium setup I think everyone's excitement level soared. A few girls went straight to the media room while the rest of us found our locker room, and in typical SWG style, blasted the music and busted a move. Our practice went well and at this point we are totally like a well-oiled machine, and everything feels so natural and very calm. We have a super cool gymnast from NC State, Taylor, in our group and it was awesome to integrate her into our team and we played an epic round of Big Booty (a clapping-while-talking circle game) waiting to start out bar rotation. Shelley, an old pro, was on top of her game, but unfortunately T's yearlong streak of not getting out came to an end :( It was definitely fun and hopefully Taylor had a good time.
After practice we saw the absolutely hilarious movie 'She's Out of My League.' I think Ming laughed literally the entire time, although maybe Swiz wins for most laughter, and even though it wasn't meant to be an inspirational movie, it proves that anything can happen. Our final activity of the night was to make signs for our fellow PAC-10 competitors who will be competing in the first session tomorrow. Go Pac-10!!! We also made a poster with all of our handprints connected and inside each one was a word describing our team this year. Yet again, this made me realize how lucky I am to be part of such an amazing team. We are beyond excited for the meet and seriously cannot wait to get out there on the floor tomorrow night! Check back in for tomorrow's updates.
