No. 50 Arizona Wraps Singles Play in Day 1 of Pac-10s

OJAI, Calif.--The No. 50 Arizona women's tennis team took only two wins in day one of the 2010 Pac-10 Championships, Thursday, in Ojai, Calif.

In the singles main draw, sophomore Natasha Marks took a first round win over Oregon's Juila Metzger at 7-6, 6-3. In the round of 16, Marks faced off against UCLA's Yasmin Schnack, who took the match at 6-4, 6-4.

For the singles invitational, sophomore Debora Castany took a 6-1, 7-5 win over Washington State's Lea Jansen in the first round. In the round of 16, Castany was defeated by Washington's Samantha Smith, 6-4, 6-1.

Up next, the Wildcats head into doubles play. In the main draw, Marks and senior Claire Rietsch will be going up against Stanford's duo of Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan.

In the invitational draw, Castany and junior Jane Huh will face the winner of the morning match between California's Stephany Chang and Nelly Radeva against Washington State's Lea Jansen and Marina Nicolas.

Also in the invitational draw, sophomore Shannon Cassidy and freshman Elizabeth Hammond will be taking on USC's Cristalia Andrews and Valeria Pulido, and sophomore Sarah Landsman and Natalia Toporowska will face Washington State's Ksenia Googe and Andjela Kankaras in the opening round.
