Sixth-Ranked Bruins Axe The Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. - Five different Bruins had multiple-hit games, led by three-hit efforts from junior GiOnna DiSalvatore and Andrea Harrison and a two-homer, four-RBI performance from senior Megan Langenfeld, as the sixth-ranked Bruins defeated #10 Stanford 10-0 in five innings on Friday at Smith Family Stadium.
The Bruins win their fourth straight to improve to 31-9 overall and 5-5 in Pac-10 play, while the Cardinal fall to 30-10 and 4-6 in league action.
Langenfeld tied a career high with her two home runs and four runs batted in, going 2-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly and three runs scored. Junior Monica Harrison and sophomore Dani Yudin each had two hits, with both Harrison sisters driving in a pair of runs.
Junior Donna Kerr improved to 16-5 on the season, striking out eight and allowing just one hit. At two different points, she retired eight and seven in a row. Kerr struck out two in the second, fourth and fifth.
The Bruins scored a run in each of the first three innings. In the first, UCLA rallied with two outs, as Langenfeld walked and Andrea Harrison drove her in with a double to left-center to make it 1-0.
In the second, Camuso hit the first pitch of the inning out to center, her eighth home run of the season to make it 2-0. Langenfeld hit her first homer of the game and 10th of the season to left to start off the third to give the Bruins their third run.
UCLA busted it open with three in the fourth. Freshman B.B. Bates led off with a single to right-center, moved to third on a single to right by DiSalvatore and scored on a double down the left-field line by Monica Harrison to make it 4-0. Langenfeld followed with a sacrifice fly to left to plate DiSalvatore with the Bruins' fifth run and a single to right by Andrea Harrison scored her older sister to increase the lead to 6-0.
The Bruins tacked on four more in the fifth. Senior Kaila Shull singled to right to start the frame and moved to second on a grounder by Bates. DiSalvatore drove in Shull with a double to right-center to make it 7-0 and another double to left-center by Monica Harrison plated DiSalvatore to put the Bruins up 8-0. Langenfeld then homered to left-center, her second of the game and 11th of the season, to give UCLA a 10-0 lead.
