Tailback Allen Bradford had a pair of long scoring runs and quarterback Mitch Mustain threw 2 touchdown passes to highlight USC's 81-play intrasquad football scrimmage on Saturday (April 24) at USC.

Bradford broke 3 tackles as he ran through the left side en route to a 39-yard TD run, then on the next series he burst 35 yards up the middle for another score.

Mustain, who completed 12-of-22 passes for 167 yards, connected with David Ausberry for a 42-yard touchdown on his initial series in the scrimmage, then later in the day he lofted a 10-yard scoring toss to tailback C.J. Gable in the corner of the end zone.

Ausberry, who has been working at both tight end and wide receiver, had 4 receptions for 77 yards. Fullback Stanley Havili had 5 catches for 27 yards, while tight end Jordan Cameron had 3 grabs for 39 yards.

Quarterback Matt Barkley was 11-of-20 psasing for 73 yards. Tailback Curtis McNeal had 50 yards on 14 carries.

Linebacker Devon Kennard led all defenders with 8 tackles, including a sack. Defensive end Malik Jackson, defensive tackle Jurrell Casey and linebacker Malcolm Smith each added 5 stops, with Casey also getting a sack.

'The story of the first half of the scrimmage was the improvement of the running game,' said new USC head coach Lane Kiffin. 'We did a better job with the backs running and the line blocking up front. It was a big improvement from last week's scrimmage. But today we didn't put up the numbers in the passing game like we have.

'We're still somewhat sloppy. We have a week of practice left and we need to improve both on offense and defense...We're a long way from knowing the identity of our team.'

USC has 3 spring practice sessions remaining, concluding with the Spring Football Game in the Coliseum next Saturday (May 1) at noon. Tickets are available for $10 at the gate, online at or by calling the USC Ticket Office at (213) 740-4672.

The Trojans open their 2010 season at Hawaii on Sept. 2.
