Softball Drops Series Finale to No. 3 Arizona

Tucson, Ariz. – Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) hit her third career home run, but the Oregon State softball team (22-24, 2-10) fell to the No. 3 Arizona Wildcats (38-7, 8-4), 9-1 in five innings, on Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium.


Freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.), sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) and junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) all recorded singles for the team’s other hits.


Arizona scored first with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning before a pair of home runs made it 7-0 after three.


Hall broke up the shutout with a solo shot over left field to make it 7-1 in the top of the fourth.


Hall the pitcher of record, throwing two innings, facing three in the third and giving up two runs, both unearned. Her record is now 16-19. Senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) came in relief in the bottom of the third before freshman Marina Demore (Vancouver, British Columbia) made an appearance in the bottom of the fourth.


Arizona’s Kenzie Fowler earned the win to improve to 27-5 on the season after throwing 4.0 innings. Sarah Akamine was the relief pitcher.
