April 29, 2010
USC junior Maria Sanchez has secured her first selection to the All-Pac-10 First Team this season. Joining her with Pac-10 women's tennis honors are first-time all-conference recipients Danielle Lao and Alison Ramos, who have earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention. Together, the trio have comprised USC's powerful top three slots in the singles lineup, while also weighing in as key factors in the Trojan doubles game as they prepare to lead the No. 20 USC women's tennis team into the coming NCAA competition.
The nation's No. 3 ranked singles player, Maria Sanchez has held down the top singles spot for the Women of Troy this season on the way to this year's All-Pac-10 First Team accolades. She won the ITA Regional Championship in the fall and was a finalist at the National Collegiate Tennis Championships before slamming out a 17-3 dual-match record this season and earning herself a pick as a Pac-10 Player of the Week. The junior now boasts a 26-7 overall singles record to go along with a trio of national doubles rankings. She sits at No. 65 with fellow All-Pac-10 honoree Danielle Lao, is #67 with Valeria Pulido and is #69 with Lyndsay Kinstler in the doubles realm. Sanchez was honored on the All-Pac-10 Second Team last season as a sophomore.
Earning their first career picks as All-Pac-10 honorees are freshman Danielle Lao and sophomore Alison Ramos, who have earned All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention. Lao presided over the No. 3 singles slot for much of the year, going 11-7 in the competitive position and holding a 22-10 overall singles record thanks to a pair of seven-match win streaks during the season. Currently ranked No. 32 in the nation in singles, she's clinched four dual-match wins for the Trojans to date. Ramos has moved up this year to do battle at the No. 2 singles position for the Women of Troy. She's held solid ground at that spot, going 13-7 in dual-match play and carrying a 25-15 overall record in her second season at Troy. She ranks No. 31 in the nation in singles currently. Lao and Ramos most recently teamed up in Pac-10 Doubles action, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual conference champs. Lao and Ramos hold a 13-4 record together in doubles play.
