Gibson Named To The NBA All-Rookie First Team

Former Trojan men's basketball standout and current Chicago Bull Taj Gibson was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team it was announced today (April 30) by the NBA. He was joined on the first team by Tyreke Evans (Sacramento), Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee), Stephen Curry (Golden State) and Darren Collison (New Orleans).
Gibson gave the Chicago Bulls a frontcourt boost, leading all rookies in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and field goal percentage (.494), while placing second in blocks (1.27 bpg). The durable Gibson, who averaged 9.0 points in his first season, appeared in all 82 games for the Bulls, making 70 starts.
Gibson finished his three-year Trojan career in 2009 as USC's all-time leader in blocked shots (253) and ranks 17th on the career scoring chart (1307). He also had 896 career rebounds which rank second all-time by a Trojan. Gibson was named the 2009 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Conference second team.
Fellow 2008-09 Trojan DeMar DeRozan was one of 19 other NBA rookies to receive votes for the NBA All-Rookie Team. For USC it was the second consecutive season a former player received the NBA All-Rookie honors, as O.J. Mayo was a unanimous selection to the 2008-09 NBA All-Rookie team.
