May 2, 2010

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - In breezy cross head wind conditions at the WIRA Championships at Lake Natoma Saturday, the Cardinal varsity lightweights took control of the race early and continued to move out to an openwater victory, qualifying for the IRA National Championships.

The Cardinal junior varsity ('B') Lightweights got off the line behind Willamette and Long Beach State in its race. During the second quarter of the race, Stanford pushed through Long Beach and raced even with Willamette. In the third 500 Stanford moved again and established a lead that they held to the finish.

In the novice four category, Stanford finished sixth behind first-place finisher Willamette.
