May 3, 2010

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Diego Velasquez and Mike Barry were named to the All-Pac-10 team as voted by the conference head golf coaches it was announced Monday.

Velasquez, who was named to the All-Pac-10 first team for the first time in his career, is in the midst of one of the finest seasons in Oregon State history. Velasquez, a senior from Bogota, Colombia, has amassed seven top 10 finishes, including winning the prestigious Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in October by an incredible seven strokes - it was the third win of his career. Velasquez has finished just one tournament over par in 2009-10 and currently is on pace to shatter OSU's single season scoring average at 70.0 strokes per round.

Barry, in his only season of competition at Oregon State, received All-Pac-10 second team honors. Barry, a senior from Medford, Ore., transferred to OSU from the University of San Diego prior to the 2008-09 but did not compete that season, before bursting onto the OSU golf scene in his first tournament at Oregon State. Barry has finished in the top 10 in five tournaments in 2009-10 including finishing third at the Western Intercollegiate in late April. Barry is tied for the lowest round of the season for the Beavers with a 6-under 65 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in early April. Barry's season scoring average of 71.42 strokes per round is the third-lowest in OSU single season history.
