Arizona Heads to Austin, Texas

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 30-ranked University of Arizona men’s tennis team is headed to Austin, Texas for the first two rounds of the 2010 NCAA tournament on Saturday, May 15. The Wildcats (13-10, 2-4 Pac 10) face the University of Minnesota Gophers in the opening round. The winner will advance to play either the No. 3 overall seeded Texas Longhorns or the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners.
The No. 35-ranked Gophers (13-10, 6-4 Big 10) and the Wildcats enter the tournament both with a 13-10 record and will meet up for the fourth time in school history. The Wildcats lead the series 3-1. The last time the two teams met up was in the fall on Sept. 25 at the Pepperdine Fall Classic in Malibu, Calif. The Wildcats dropped six of their seven single matches against the Gophers, with senior Ravid Hazi picking up the Wildcats only win.
Six of the seven teams in the Pacific-10 conference made it into the tournament for the second consecutive year. Joining the Wildcats are Stanford, UCLA, California, USC, and Washington. The Wildcats clinched their eighth appearance into the NCAA tournament.
13 of the 23 opponents Arizona faced this season made the tournament. In addition to the six Pac-10 teams, Nebraska, Denver, BYU, Auburn, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Alabama made the 64-team NCAA tournament field.
